Hello Thinking Thursday! My name is Lena Iwasaki and I have worked with the Thinking Thursday group for about a year now. For the past month, I have been in Nepal teaching English at Ekta Academy. I haven't been posting or updating too many people about my experience, but I thought this platform was a perfect place to share my thoughts. To write about all my reflections, emotions, and thoughts being here would take too much time so I hope the pictures help as well. Something I noticed right away being in Nepal was the culture. Here, their faith and culture are embedded in every aspect of their lives. From worshipping early in the morning and fasting to having several celebrations at school; culture is everywhere. The two main religions practiced in Nepal are Hinduism and Buddhism, but there are at least 100 different cultures and languages! "Ekta" means unity in Nepali and it's really amazing to me how much culture can be an important part of their education. In the span of a month, I have already gone to about three different festivals celebrating different things such as our siblings, Nepali women, and our children. There are more to come as well!
