Hello everyone, I officially only have about two weeks left before I go back to America. I will be posting as much as I can about this amazing experience I am having so far. This past week, I have been painting every day from 10 am to 4 pm. The students have exams before the big Dashain festival so they come out and help me paint after. Dashain is one of the biggest festivals in Nepal and lasts about 15 days. During this time, families will go back to their hometown and spend the holidays with their extended families. Everyone is talking about this event and asking me what I will do! I will be going to the hometown of the family I am staying with and we will be traveling to Pokhara. This area of Nepal is a very famous tourist spot and known for its beautiful nature.
Alongside the painting project, I have put together a fundraiser for the students of Ekta Academy. Over the months of my stay here, I have got to know them more personally. I realized that a lot of the students come from homes where it is financially unstable. Actually, such a big population of Nepal lives under the poverty line. Unlike America, education is not free in Nepal and many families can't afford to send their kids to school no matter how desperately they want a better life for them. One thing I realized being in Nepal is we can give people encouraging words, time, comfort and paint their schools but there are still substantial problems in their communities that need to be solved. I really want to offer this fundraiser to them for the students of Ekta Academy and I hope you can check it out too!
Here is a video I made and the link to the GoFundMe page!
